Larry A. Pavao

Larry A. Pavao, 71, of Milpitas, Calif., formerly of Hilo, died Feb. 21 at the VA Regional Medical Center in San Jose, Calif. Born in Hilo, and was a restorative nursing aide at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center of Hilo and Mission De La Casa in San Jose, and retired Army National Guard veteran. Visitation 8-9 a.m. today (April 24) at St. Joseph Church. Memorial Mass at 9:30 a.m. Urn committal services 11:30 a.m. at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Jocelyn Pavao; children, Larry (Reyna) Pavao Jr., LjCQ Anne Pavao, Lucky Joyce Pavao, Lorlyn Joy Pavao, Brittany Pavao and Lisa Pavao; brother, Jerry Pavao; eight grandchildren; two uncles. Lurline Kaailau (Kalua) Rapoza

Lurline Kaailau (Kalua) Rapoza, 76, of Hilo died March 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and worked for Kanna’s Catering. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial Service at 6 p.m. Graveside urn committal service 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Casual attire. Survived by children, Douglas (Mary) Rapoza, Samuel (Denise) Rapoza and Merrillyn (Dean Martin) Rapoza; siblings, Pearl (Rodney) Haili, Herring (Sherry) Kalua, Nelson Kalua, Milton (Janis) Kalua, Roger (Amy Wong) Kalua, Johnett Nacapoy, Samuel (Simone) Kalua, Carlson Kalua and Bernard (Jonell) Kalua; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary Aganus

Gary Aganus, 91, of Papaaloa died Feb. 1 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Paauhau, he was a retired plantation field manager for the former Hamakua Sugar, worked for the former Paauhau Sugar and the county Planning Department, served on the Liquor Commission, played and coached baseball from youth to makule, diver/fisherman and gardener. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday (April 27) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Celebration of Life Mass at 10 a.m. Urn burial to follow at Honokaa Catholic Cemetery. Survived by daughter, Garolyn Akiona; son, Stacy Aganus; sister, Charlene (Michael) Sohriakoff; sisters-in-law, Jane Aganus, Caroline Hart and Kazue Hart; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Louise Ululani “Aunty China” “Aunty Ulu” ‘Anake Ulu” Morales

Louise Ululani “Aunty China” “Aunty Ulu” ‘Anake Ulu” Morales, 78, of Hilo died March 24 at home. Born in Honolulu, and a Kailua High School alumna and Madrigal singer, she was a retired school administrator, was among initial group of parents who established Punana Leo o Hilo and helped found Ke Kula ‘O Nawahiokalani‘opu‘u in Kea’au, and member of Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church. Visitation 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday (April 27) at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church. Eulogy at 9:45 a.m. Mass at 10 a.m. Luncheon to follow. Aloha attire. Survived by sons, Jose Morales Jr. of Hilo, Kaipo Morales of Makakilo, Oahu, and Keola Morales of Hilo; daughter, Malia Morales of Makakilo; sister, Lu Hironaka of Honolulu; four grandchildren; cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. Emma Kamila Faisca

Emma Kamila Faisca, 91, of Kapaau died March 8 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in North Kohala, she was a retired housekeeper and caregiver for the Von Holt and King families and member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi. Visitation 8:30-9:45 a.m. Saturday (April 27) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi. Memorial mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Halawa Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by sons, David (Candice) G. Faisca of Hilo and John B. Faisca of North Kohala; daughters-in-law, Eydie Lee Faisca of Hilo and Terry Nesting of Texas; sisters, Violet Manu Salvador and Charlotte Mahana Dupre of North Kohala, Kathleen (Clive) Leialoha Fernandez and Bertha Maile Caballero of Kawaihae; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
